In a heartfelt statement released today, Kaizer Chiefs Football Club expressed their profound sadness at the passing of South African football legend Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala.
Tshabalala, a former player for Kaizer Chiefs, also served the club as their Technical Director between 1996 and 2001. The statement highlighted his significant contributions to the club both on and off the field.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Stanley ‘Screamer’ Tshabalala.
A former Kaizer XI and Kaizer Chiefs player – he was also the Club’s Technical Director between 1996 & 2001. We convey our condolences to the Tshabalala family and Orlando Pirates FC and the South African football family at large.
May his soul rest in peace,” the club wrote via X account.
Tshabalala’s passing comes just a day after Orlando Pirates (Where he was their Football Technical Director) announced his death from injuries sustained during a home invasion in March of this year.
Who Is Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala?
Born in Orlando East in 1949, Tshabalala’s sporting journey began not on the pitch, but in the ring.
A student of legendary Transvaal boxing champion Jerry Moloi, Tshabalala honed his fighting spirit before transitioning to the beautiful game.
Football ultimately captured Tshabalala’s heart. He became a founder member of Kaizer Chiefs, earning the nickname “Screamer” for his energetic demands for the ball on the field.
Tshabalala’s playing career then took him to Sundowns, where he transformed into the “Piano” and “Shoe-shine” man. This moniker reflected his ability to orchestrate a team that flowed seamlessly between defense and attack, much like a well-oiled machine.
Tshabalala’s legacy extends beyond his on-field contributions. He leaves behind a wealth of memories and a reminder of the unwavering passion that fuels South African football.
