Setback for Chiefs as Al Ahly Turn Down Tau Offer
Kaizer Chiefs’ hopes of bringing Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau back to South Africa have suffered a setback after Al Ahly rejected their initial offer for the winger.
The Egyptian giants are believed to have deemed the bid insufficient for a player of Tau’s caliber.
The 30-year-old has struggled for consistent form at Al Ahly and has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent months.
Chiefs, eager to bolster their attacking options, saw an opportunity to acquire the former Mamelodi Sundowns star.
However, with Al Ahly rejecting their offer, Chiefs now face a difficult decision. Whether they will return with an improved bid remains to be seen, but the club may opt to explore other options in the transfer market.
Tau’s contract with Al Ahly runs until June 2025, giving the Egyptian club ample time to consider their options. With interest from Saudi Arabian clubs also emerging, the competition for Tau’s signature is likely to intensify.
As Chiefs continue their squad rebuilding process, the pursuit of Tau represents an ambitious move.
However, the club must weigh up the potential benefits of signing the experienced winger against the financial implications of meeting Al Ahly’s valuation.
With the transfer window still open, Chiefs have time to explore alternative targets and strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
