Kaizer Chiefs have set their sights on Tanzanian international Feisal Salum, but the talented midfielder’s high salary demands could be a stumbling block.
Salum, currently playing for Azam FC, is reportedly negotiating a substantial pay rise with his club, which could make him one of the highest-earning players in the Tanzanian Premier League.
Kaizer Chiefs and Simba SC in the Race
Both Kaizer Chiefs and Simba SC are monitoring Salum’s situation closely.
According to reports, Amakhosi have the financial muscle to outbid Azam FC and offer the 26-year-old an enticing deal. However, convincing Salum to leave his homeland for South Africa might be a tougher challenge than anticipated.
Salum’s contributions on the field justify his hefty demands. Last season, the attacking midfielder netted 19 goals for Azam FC and has already scored nine this term.
His impressive form also played a significant role in helping Tanzania secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco.
Azam’s Counteroffer
Azam FC is keen to retain their star player and is prepared to make him one of their highest earners. Reports suggest that Salum could be offered a salary of $12,000 per month (around R222,000).
While Kaizer Chiefs have the resources to exceed this figure, it remains uncertain whether Salum will accept Azam’s offer or opt for a move abroad.
“Feisal is an important player for Azam, and they will do everything to keep him,” a source revealed. “Chiefs can match or even top Azam’s offer, but it’s up to the player to decide his future.”
Salum’s Cryptic Responses
In a recent interview, Salum remained tight-lipped about his potential move. When asked about the rumors linking him to Kaizer Chiefs and Simba SC, he simply stated, “I can’t speak on this matter.”
He deflected further questions about his future, urging journalists to focus on his current club, Azam FC.
Whether Salum will don the famous gold and black jersey of Amakhosi remains to be seen, but fans are undoubtedly excited about the prospect of his arrival.
