Kaizer Chiefs are poised to announce Burundian coach Cedric Kaze as their new assistant coach, filling the vacancy left by Fernando Da Cruz, who departed for the Moroccan federation just two months into his tenure.
This strategic appointment underscores the club’s commitment to continuity and expertise in their coaching staff.
Kaze has a proven track record, having collaborated closely with head coach Nasreddine Nabi during their successful two-year stint at Tanzanian champions Yanga SC, where they clinched back-to-back league titles and reached the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.
His familiarity with Nabi’s coaching philosophy is expected to facilitate a smooth transition and enhance team performance at Naturena.
According to reports from FARPost, Kaze has agreed to join Chiefs as the second assistant behind Khalil Ben Youssef. Nabi was granted the autonomy to select his backroom staff upon his appointment in July, and he has chosen to bring along trusted allies like Kaze.
This decision reflects a cohesive approach to coaching that aims to optimize player development and tactical execution.
Senzo Mbatha, who recruited Kaze at Yanga, highlighted his attributes, stating, “He’s a hard worker who believes in the science of football. He’s very focused on planning and analysis.”
This analytical mindset is expected to benefit the Chiefs as they prepare for the upcoming fixtures. Kaze’s technical expertise will play a crucial role in refining players’ skills and enhancing tactical awareness on the pitch.
Kaze holds a Bachelor of Sport Science degree and possesses both CAF and German Football Federation A Licenses. His coaching resume includes league titles with Burundi’s Atletico Olympic and experience with Mukura Victory Sports in Rwanda.
His extensive background positions him as a highly accomplished tactician capable of making an immediate impact.
While former Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane was speculated to be in contention for the role, he has since been appointed as co-coach at AmaZulu. This leaves Kaze as a fresh face in Chiefs’ coaching setup, promising fans an exciting new chapter as they look to reclaim their status among South Africa’s elite football clubs.
As the announcement draws near, supporters eagerly anticipate how Kaze’s addition will influence the team’s dynamics and performance in the 2024/25 season.
