Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson has provided a glimpse into the team’s pre-season camp in Turkey, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities presented by the new technical team.
Amakhosi recently jetted out to Istanbul for a three-week training stint, marking a significant shift in their pre-season preparations.
This extended journey, under the guidance of head coach Nasreddine Nabi and his staff, is a stark contrast to their usual routine.
“It was a bit long,” Peterson admitted regarding the travel, highlighting the challenges of adjusting to a new environment.
“We’re not used to such a long trip together.” However, he acknowledged the positive aspects, including the chance to bond with teammates and experience new cultures.
Beyond the travel logistics, Peterson detailed the impact of the new coaching staff, particularly the demanding training methods.
He contrasted the new approach with what the players were accustomed to, highlighting the intensity introduced by the likes of assistant coach Fernando Da Cruz and goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi.
“The first two-and-a-half weeks of pre-season in Johannesburg were tough,” Peterson revealed. “Especially with the new guys in – new fitness trainer, assistant coach, and goalkeeper coach.”
He elaborated on the changes in goalkeeping drills, explaining how the new staff implemented a more intense approach from the outset.
“Generally, we try and build up,” he said, referring to their usual routine. “But with the new coach, we just went straight up to the top.”
While the initial sessions were grueling, Peterson emphasized the team’s adaptation. “The first two days were a bit tough, but after that our bodies adapted, getting better and stronger. Now I think we’re used to it.”
Peterson’s insights offer a valuable window into the Chiefs’ pre-season experience. The long journey, coupled with the new coaching staff’s demanding training methods, represents a significant shift for the players.
However, their dedication to adapting bodes well as they strive to gel under Nabi’s leadership.
With several weeks remaining in Turkey, the Chiefs will continue to hone their skills and build team spirit. Fans wait eagerly to see how this intense training regime translates to success on the pitch when the season kicks off.
