Cavin Johnson’s departure from Kaizer Chiefs has been shrouded in controversy, with reports suggesting a lack of transparency from the club.
The former interim coach, initially brought in for the youth academy, was thrust into the senior role following Molefi Ntseki’s dismissal.
Despite facing challenging circumstances and fan frustration, Johnson reportedly felt blindsided by the decision.
An unnamed source close to him stated, “The coach was told shortly before the public announcement that he wouldn’t be retained. It’s as if he found out at the same time as everyone else.”
The source further revealed Johnson’s belief that incoming coaches might feel threatened by his presence.
Having led the senior team, even if temporarily, Johnson suspects the new management might view him as a potential competitor. However, the source emphasized that this is merely his interpretation.
Kaizer Chiefs have yet to publicly address these claims. The club confirmed Johnson’s departure but offered no explanation for the timing or manner of his exit.
Meanwhile, the search for a permanent replacement continues, with the Soweto giants aiming for a fresh start in the upcoming season.
The lingering questions surrounding Johnson’s dismissal, however, cast a shadow over this new chapter for Kaizer Chiefs.
