Kaizer Chiefs is reportedly considering a bold move to bring Kenyan international Michael Olunga to Naturena in the upcoming January transfer window.
The prolific striker, known for his goal-scoring prowess, has been linked with the Soweto giants as they seek to bolster their attacking options.
Olunga, currently playing for Qatari club Al-Duhail SC, has established himself as one of the most feared strikers in Asia.
His impressive goal-scoring record, including a hat-trick in the opening match of the Qatar Stars League this season, has caught the attention of clubs around the world.
Chiefs are reportedly exploring the possibility of acquiring Olunga to complement Ranga Chivaviro up front. With the club’s pursuit of Fiston Mayele from Pyramids FC proving challenging, Olunga has emerged as a viable alternative.
“You see at the moment the Fiston Mayele mission looks impossible,” a source told Soccer-Laduma.
“That’s why Chiefs are now looking at Michael Olunga for January as well. They feel it will be much easier getting Michael at this point than to stay on the Mayele chase.”
Another source confirmed the club’s interest in Olunga, emphasizing the need for a striker to partner with Chivaviro.
“Yes, the main focus in January is on a striker, and since it’s becoming clear that they may not get Fiston Mayele, they have reignited interest in Michael Olunga,” the source said.
“Whatever the team does, they want to have a striker in January to play with Ranga Chivaviro.”
While Olunga’s goal-scoring ability undoubtedly makes him an attractive target, Chiefs may face challenges in securing his signature.
The Kenyan international’s high market value and potential wage demands could prove to be obstacles.
However, if Chiefs can successfully negotiate a deal with Al-Duhail SC and meet Olunga’s requirements, they could potentially have a formidable attacking duo in Chivaviro and the Kenyan goal machine.
