Sekhukhune United bolstered their backline on Tuesday with the acquisition of experienced defender Njabulo Ngcobo. The 30-year-old arrives at Babina Noko after his release from Kaizer Chiefs at the end of last season.
Ngcobo, known for his defensive solidity and ability to play as a center-back or defensive midfielder, adds much-needed experience to Sekhukhune’s squad.
He joins a team under new management with German coach Peter Hyballa at the helm.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Njabulo Ngcobo,” Sekhukhune United announced in a statement. “Welcome to the Babina Noko Family!”
Ngcobo’s stint at Kaizer Chiefs did not quite live up to the initial hype. After a breakout season with Moroka Swallows that earned him the Dstv Premiership Defender of the Season award in 2021, his move to Amakhosi saw limited playing time.
Sekhukhune United, however, appears to be a fresh start for the defender. Ngcobo joins a team that has been busy in the transfer window, bringing in reinforcements across the pitch. Whether he can recapture his previous form and become a leader in Babina Noko’s defense remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Ngcobo is ready to prove himself at his new home.
