Kaizer Chiefs are actively engaged in contract negotiations with star forward Ranga Chivaviro to secure his future at the club and prevent a potential free transfer.
With his current deal set to expire in June 2025, the club aims to extend his contract by an additional two years, keeping him at Naturena until June 2027.
This proactive approach is designed to avoid the risk of Chivaviro signing a pre-contract with another team by the end of December.
Sources indicate that Chiefs are eager to finalize this extension well ahead of time, contrasting their typical last-minute contract negotiations.
“In most cases, the club has waited until the last minute to extend player contracts, and they don’t want to do that with Ranga,” a source explained.
Although discussions are ongoing, the club is committed to ensuring that Chivaviro remains a key part of their squad moving forward. Chivaviro’s performance has notably improved under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, which has further increased his value to the team.
After a challenging previous season, he has made a strong start in the current campaign, scoring two goals early on. This resurgence has led insiders to believe that if he continues to perform well, a new contract is likely to follow.
While Kaizer Chiefs are also exploring options for new striker signings, their priority remains retaining Chivaviro.
“What they are doing is to make sure that as they are looking for another striker to sign, maybe in January, they don’t lose the one that they have in the team,” noted a source close to the situation.
This strategy highlights the club’s commitment not only to bolster their attacking options but also to maintain their existing talent.
As negotiations progress, Chiefs are focused on building a competitive team capable of achieving success in upcoming seasons while ensuring that key players like Chivaviro remain integral to their plans.
