Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has offered advice to Sibongiseni Mthethwa on how to break into the first team and earn the trust of coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Mthethwa joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch at the beginning of last season but has struggled to find consistent playing time.
With the club looking to improve its performance following a disappointing campaign, Mthethwa’s future at Chiefs is uncertain.
Katsande, who spent several seasons at Chiefs and became a fan favorite, believes that patience and a willingness to learn are key to success.
“Any coach wants a player who is eager to learn,” he said.
“When Stuart Baxter took over, I couldn’t make the team in the first few games. I went to him and asked what I could improve on.”
Katsande emphasized the importance of humility and a desire to learn from experienced players.
“You’ve got to be a good student and humble yourself,” he advised Mthethwa.
“Ask those who’ve walked the path and learned every day. No matter how good you are, you need to learn constantly.”
The Zimbabwean also stressed the importance of being patient and waiting for the right opportunity.
“People will provide you with good information,” Katsande said.
“We’re here. We know the ins and outs of the position. We can also contribute and are always open.”
Mthethwa will need to follow Katsande’s advice if he hopes to secure a regular place in the Chiefs starting lineup and contribute to the club’s success.
