Chiefs’ Basadien Bid Stalled
Kaizer Chiefs are facing a defensive crisis as their pursuit of top target Fawaaz Basadien appears to be hitting a brick wall.
Stellenbosch FC have made it clear that they are unwilling to part ways with the talented left-back, leaving the Glamour Boys with limited options.
The Soweto giants had identified Basadien as a crucial piece in their defensive puzzle, especially after losing key players and suffering injuries to others.
Bongani Sam, signed as a potential backup, is sidelined with a serious injury sustained during the team’s pre-season camp in Turkey. To compound the issue, Edmilson Dove has also picked up an injury, leaving Happy Mashiane as the only recognised left-back currently available.
Chiefs had hoped to bolster their defensive ranks with Basadien, but Stellenbosch’s firm stance has forced them to reconsider their plans.
The club may now need to explore alternative options in the transfer market or potentially look to promote a young player from their development ranks.
The race against time is on for Kaizer Chiefs to find a suitable replacement before the start of the new season. With a depleted defensive line, the club faces a challenging task of maintaining their competitiveness.
